PETER HUTCHINSON

B. 1930, LONDON, ENGLAND

Peter Hutchinson is associated with the conceptual art, earth art, and story art movements of the late 60's and early 70's. He and his contemporaries, such as Robert Smithson and Dennis Oppenheim, forged a rigorous, expansive alternative to the dry, stifling art of high minimalism. In his playful text and photo collages, Hutchinson creates worlds where we can get lost in his imagination.

His worked is included in collections such as the Musée d’Art Moderne/Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam; the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basle, Switzerland; the National Gallery of Art, Washington and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He has been awarded the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant, Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation grant, and National Endowment for the Arts grant.
